Meetings, dinners and trips should be announced well in advance to give the teachers time to prepare and plan, but sometimes your boss will spring a dinner on you with no warning.
Staff meetings are conducted entirely in Korean. You feel excluded during the meeting if you can't understand a word. Being able to speak/read/understand Korean is not a requirement for the job, but you should be prepared for this. Imagine attending a meeting where you can't understand a word - it's very frustrating!!
One of our teachers felt the same. When she had the moments where everyone is talking and laughing in Korean around her during lunch time, she felt isolated and lonely. She couldn't talk or laugh together.
Language barrier, this is really hard to overcome.
